The    Ichhamati    Co-Operative    Milk   Producers’   Union   Ltd.    (IMUL)    is   a   farmers organization, was set-up in the year 1993 with the objective of uplifting the rural Milk  Producers’ through  socioeconomic  development,  by organizing Co-operative Societies   and   training   them   for   increasing   milk   production,   processing   and marketing  of ‘milk  and  milk products’.  The  district of N-24 Parganaswhich  primarily depends on agriculture as the main source of livelihood has considered dairying as the second source of income under the concept of mixed farming. Keeping this in view, the  ichhamati Milk Union is in continuous process of organizing primary milk producers’ co-operative societies in the villages.
The primary milk producers’ co-operative society at the village level collects milk from its producer members and makes payment periodically based on the quantity and   quality   of  milk.   The   District   Milk   Union   provides   various   services,   like veterinary coverage, cattle feed, fodder etc. to its producers’ members. The District Milk Union supplies raw milk to the Banglar Dairy & is doing marketing of the different milk products.
This district level Milk Union is continuously playing an active role to establish a network to make animal husbandry practices profitable among the poor, landless, marginal farmers / labourers by providing a sound milk marketing system to sell their produce easily and more beneficially.
